Christmas support scheme for Tipperary retailers
Tipperary Co Council in conjunction with Tipperary Local Enterprise Office has launched a new Christmas Retail Support Programme.
Traders associations, chambers of commerce and community groups are invited to apply for a cash grant for activities and events over the Christmas period.
A great number of factors, including the economic recession; significant changes in the retail market sector; reduced consumer spending and the growth in online shopping, have had a significant impact on the traditional retail centres in towns and villages.
At the launch, Cathaoirleach Seamus Hanafin conveyed that “Tipperary County Council and Tipperary Local Enterprise Office recognise the retail sectors' contribution to the economy of County Tipperary. As such, we continue to develop programmes such as the Town Centre Initiative, Commercial Incentive Scheme and the Painting Grant Scheme to assist the sector and restore vibrancy and vitality to town and village centres across the county.
“The Christmas Retail Support Programme is targeted at towns and villages with the objective of stimulating growth in the retail sector, and we encourage applications from across the county to avail of this opportunity,” Cllr Hanafin said.
The objective of the Christmas Retail Support Programme developed by Tipperary County Council in conjunction with Tipperary Local Enterprise Office is to increase footfall and spend in towns and villages during the festive season. The programme will provide support in the form of a cash grant of between €500 and €4,000 to towns and villages to develop and implement activities and events over the Christmas period.
