Icmsa urge farmers to examine n p statements to avoid penalties

The Chairman of the ICMSA Farm Services and Environment Committee, Patrick Rohan, has urged all farmers to examine their N and P statements following the announcement by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine that these statements are available online for all farmers registered with agfood.ie or from regional offices for those not registered.

 

Mr Rohan stated it is essential farmers look at their current position regarding the limits set down in the Nitrates Regulations and assess if they need to take any remedial action to avoid exceeding the 170 kg N/ha for non-derogation farmers or the 250 kg N/ha for derogation farmers.

 

Breaches of the Nitrates Regulations will result in significant penalties for those involved and Mr Rohan stated that there is now an opportunity for farmers to assess their situation and determine if they will have difficultly staying within the required limits.
