O'Donoghue skippers Ireland to Home International title

The Republic of Ireland Senior Snooker team, captained by New Institute Nenagh’s Brendan O'Donoghue, retained the Prince of Wales Home International Snooker Championship in fantastic style the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds on Monday evening.

The Irish team of O'Donoghue, Rodney Goggins (Wexford), Greg Casey (Cork) and Michael Judge (Dublin) played the perfect weekend to defend their title with five wins from their five matches. Michael Judge had the tournament high break with 112.

In Session 1: Ireland 7-5 Isle of Man, Session 2: Ireland 8-4 Northern Ireland, Session 3: Ireland 7-5 England, Session 4: Ireland 7-5 Wales 7-5, Session 5: Ireland -3 Scotland.

Ireland have only won this title on six occasions in their history, 1993, 2000, 2001, 2012, 2017 and now 2018.

National Coach PJ Nolan said the players did amazingly well to defend their title and they were very professional in all their matches winning key frames at crucial times.
