Day 1
One of the most impressive performances of the day came in the mares’ open where the Sean Aherne-trained Gabrielleamee (7/2) ran out a clear cut winner. Ridden by Sheila Ahern, this daughter of Cloudings headed the front-running Castlewhite at the final fence and stayed on best to beat that rival by half a dozen lengths.
The winner may well now continue her career on the racecourse over the summer.
Racing opened with a very competitive four-year-old mares’ maiden. Victory here went to the Matthew Flynn-O’Connor-owned and trained newcomer, Highstreet Roller (4/1). Sent to front off the home bend by jockey J.L. Scallan, this filly by Jeremy displayed a smart turn of foot when quickening away to beat runner-up Mega Double by four lengths.
