'12 Angry Men' in Cloughjordan

'12 Angry Men' will be screened on Wednesday May 3rd in the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre at 2pm.

A classic courtroom drama directed by Sidney Lumet in 1957, it stars the then giants of the movie screen Henry Fonda, Lee J Cobb and EG Marshall.

On a hot summer's day, a jury of 12 men is sent to begin deliberations in the first-degree murder trial of an 18-year-old Latino accused of killing his father. A guilty verdict means the death penalty.

On the surface, it appears to be an open-and-shut case, but when juror No 8 (Henry Fonda) casts the only not-guilty vote in the first jury ballot, tensions begin to rise.

In 2007, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry and voted as the second-best courtroom drama ever by the American Film Institute. It placed as the highest courtroom drama on ‘Rotten Tomatoes'’ Top 100 Movies of All Time.

Admission to this screening is free and there's no need to book.

The other films in this month’s free community screenings include: 'Dare to be Wild' and 'Pride', which will be shown on Wednesday May 17th and Wednesday May 31st in the above venue, also at 2pm. Details will be made available closer to the time.
