Coming up at Nenagh Arts Centre

There's plenty of entertainment to look forward to at Nenagh Arts Centre over the coming days.

A seminar on 'The Big House', hosted by Tipperary County Council, will take place on Saturday March 11th from 10am-5pm. The seminar aims to highlight the rich architectural and historic tradition of the county and shed new light on the people, places and events that shaped this fascinating period in our county's history. With diverse topics from the role of women, to furniture and interiors, to the social life of the family, to the life of servants, and the role of landlords, there is something to interest all (tickets €15).

On Saturday night, March 11th, Andy Irvine will be in concert from 8pm (tickets €20/€9 for under 16s). Andy Irvine has enjoyed a long and successful career as a traditional Irish musician. He has travelled the world as a solo artist and as a member of legendary Irish groups such as Planxty and Patrick Street and more recently Mozaik. Throughout his extensive career he has maintained and developed the qualities in his music, which endear him to his audience and fellow musicians alike.

After his introduction to the world of touring with Sweeney’s Men in 1965, Irvine continued to travel the world. It was these journeys that led him to adopt the bouzouki in his performance. This new instrument allowed him to develop his own style while learning that of the Balkan countries he visited.
We have added a special concession for under sixteens of €9; this provides a real opportunity for all young musicians to watch and see two truly remarkable Irish musicians live on stage in Nenagh.
Looking ahead, 'The Good Lie' will be shown at Nenagh Arts Centre on Wednesday March 15th at 8pm (tickets €5).
Four Sudanese children are orphaned after their village is massacred in the Second Sudanese Civil War. Consequently, they make an arduous and dangerous trek through the plains, enduring hardship, death and sacrifice all the way until they reach safety in a refugee camp in Kenya. Years later, these youths are among 3,600 selected for resettlement in America, only to have the one girl among them sent to Boston, while the three boys must to make a new life in Kansas City.

Together, these young men must adjust to an alien culture even as the emotional baggage of their past haunts them. However, these newcomers, and their new friends, like employment counselor Carrie Davis, strive to understand each other in this new home, as they make peace with their histories in a challenge that will change all their lives.

On Thursday March 23rd, Nenagh Arts Centre hosts 'Looking Deadly' at 8pm (tickets €16/€12.50).
A wedding is the craic; birthdays are... alright. But you can't beat a good Irish funeral. Yeah it's sad... but ya know what'll help with that? Kind words, hang sangwiches, a glass of warm porter, milky tea, a bad ballad, a snog with that cousin you know you shouldn't fancy and a fight over who thought more of the dearly departed.

Now you're ready for the three-day wake! Let Foystown's finest funeral directors Jane and Rob help you come to terms with the loss of your dear friend and local legend big Tom McCarthy. May he rest in peace... Eventually!
