New speed limit for old Nenagh-Limerick road

A local councillor has welcomed a Nenagh Municipal District endorsement of an increased speed limit on the R445 (old N7) between Nenagh and Limerick.

A proposal to increase the limit on the road from 80kmph to 100kmph is part of a countywide speed limit review. Cllr John Carroll (FF) said the proposal was discussed by local district councillors recently and was agreed to. He said the proposal will still have to be signed off at national level but did not expect there would be any difficulty with this.

Cllr Carroll welcomed the agreement to increase the limit on the old N7. He said the 80kmph limit has caused a lot of problems for local people, many of whom would be glad to know it is being restored to the level it was at before the cycle lanes opened.

District Director Marcus O'Connor stressed that the proposal still has go before Tipperary Co Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland before being passed. He said it would be several weeks before the speed limit on the road changes.
