Deadline approaching for electoral boundary submissions

The deadline for submissions supporting the return of Lower Ormond to the Tipperary constituency is approaching on Tuesday next, January 10th.

The Constituency Commission is inviting submissions in its review of the existing constituencies for election voting. Last year’s general election saw over 10,000 people in the Lower Ormond area of North Tipperary having to cast their vote in the Offaly constituency. There have been widespread calls for the return of Lower Ormond to the Tipperary constituency ahead of the next election.

Local Labour TD Alan Kelly recently launched a petition in support of the campaign. “We need to make sure that the electoral commission get a very clear understanding that breaking county boundaries is not acceptable, particularly for large counties like Tipperary,” he said.

Submissions can be made to The Secretary, Constituency Commission, Room 1.65, Custom House, Dublin 1, or by email to constituency.commission@housing.gov.ie
