Walkers taking a break during the weekend.

Successful walking festival in Upperchurch

For the eleventh year in a row, the walkers took to the hills of Upperchurch recently as once again the well established walking festival drew participants from all over Tipperary, Ireland and abroad.

While the hundred or more road walkers on Friday night had to contend with a continuous downpour the Saturday and Sunday, walkers had the best of weather conditions to enjoy their perambulations.

In all there were 10 different walks, each attracting between 25 and 80 open air enthusiasts. Old friendships were renewed and new ones made, music, song and dance were enjoyed and the fine array of food provided saw many dieting regimes put on hold temporarily.

In addition to the walking, highlights of the event included well known nonagenarian walker Mrs Maura Armstrong starting the Fun Run, the presentation by Mid Tipp Hillwalkers to a number of charities, and the top class music, singing and dancing sessions.

The organisers wish to thank all who helped to make the event such a success, especially the landowners. The next walking event in Upperchurch is the Christmas Night Hike on Sunday December 18th, starting from the Community Centre at 6.30pm.
