Concern over nenagh and roscrea nursing homes

Concern is being expressed over the future of the St Conlon's and Dean Maxwell community nursing homes in Nenagh and Roscrea.
Neither nursing home has been included in the HSE Service Plan for 2015 as projects earmarked for capital investment this year.
This has caused local Fianna Fáil councillor John Carroll to fear that there is a considerable threat of both nursing homes being closed.
St Conlon's and the Dean Maxwell unit are among 21 public nursing homes that have been warned by health watchdog HIQA over a 'major non-compliance' in standards. All of the nursing homes are required to reach time-bound and costed compliance by July 1st 2015, failing which they will be subjected to sanctions and possible closure.
Sanctions could include forcing the facilities to reduce their number of residents or high-dependency patients. They could also be prevented from admitting more patients.
