Pilgrim loop walk in kilcommon this sunday

Walkers and pilgrims from throughout Tipperary, and especially from Kilcommon Parish, are invited to participate in a special Walk of Remembrance on Kilcommon Pilgrim Loop Walk, on Sunday, November 2nd to commemorate All Souls Day and remember the deceased members of Kilcommon Parish.

Historically, the Celtic nations have always had a great respect for their ancestors and they believed that at certain times of year, the boundaries between mortals and the souls of the dead cease to exist. This is especially true of All Soul’s Day where the Irish traditionally understood that their deceased ancestors are eternal repositories of wisdom and that their souls return on All Souls Day is to be with their descendants. The Walk of Remembrance will commence from the Kilcommon Prayer Garden following 11am Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Kilcommon and will follow the old Mass paths of the  Kilcommon Pilgrim Loop Walk to the Mass Rock at Laghile. Walkers are invited to bring along memorial cards and memorabilia relating to deceased loved ones, for a special blessing and reflection which will take place at the historic Mass Rock. The walkers will then return to the newly refurbished Community Hall Hub in Kilcommon village for a welcome rest.  Refreshments including Irish stew, tea/coffee and homemade bakes will be available for a small charge. The walk is approximately eight kilometres and suitable for medium fitness levels. Walkers are advised to wear robust walking boots, rain wear and bring a walking cane. Mass commences at 11am and the walk will leave from the new WindWalker Hub at the community hall at 12 noon following registration.
