Nenagh doctor speaks on chronic fatigue syndrome

A Nenagh born medic whose specialities include treating people who suffer from a recognised form of complete exhaustion will be on national television this Wednesday speaking about the condition.

Dr Mary Ryan will be addressing the issues around Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and thyroid disease on TG4 at 3pm.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is  a very common condition among women, but men also suffer from this it.

People with the condition often function with substantially lower levels of activity than they were capable of before they became ill.

The symptoms  are muscle pain, extreme fatigue, irritable bowel and bloating, problems with sleep, difficulty with memory and concentration, headache, sore throat, palpitations and night sweats.

Dr Ryan, a consultant at Barrington's Hosptial in Limerick and Auteven Hospital in Kilkenny, and a senior lecturer at the University of Limerick Medical School,  says lifestyle changes are a must as the organs of people with the condition must recharge to be able to function properly.
