TRAPRISE - Josh can deliver Tipp Cup glory

TRAPRISE

The highlight of every season at Thurles Greyhound Stadium, the 2020 Centenary Co-op Tipperary Cup will draw to a conclusion this Saturday and although many patrons will have missed the live action with restricted attendance, this year’s renewal has been of the highest standard while delivering thrilling racing.

Come Saturday’s showdown, our local hopes will again rest with the kennels of Pat Guilfoyle in Moneygall as the Paul & Mary Jennings owned Laughil Josh (Head Bound/Laughil Louise) produced yet another brave effort despite suffering defeat at semi-final stage and takes realistic winning claims to the final.

Contesting the opening semi from Trap 3, Josh was slow to stride but battled bravely between runners when remarkably securing second position to the top of the back straight. With three lengths to recover, he set out in pursuit of leader Boyhero and appeared set for victory when rushing up on his inside at the closing bends.

Tight for room however, Laughil Josh was shuffled backward before a renewed effort in the home-straight saw his strong finish fail by just a head in 29.06 (-30).

Final Draw- 1) Laughil Josh 2) Gettin Up 3) Riverside Leo 4) Boyhero 5) Aghaburren Major 6) Ballyhimikin Bolt

The opposing semi-final was claimed by Gettin Up as that strong stayer posted 28.75 (-30) when reeling in the early paced Riverside Leo and the latter can be expected to challenge for the early lead again in the final. However, Trap 1 offers the opportunity for Laughil Josh to turn close to the pace and a reproduction of his second-round form when scoring in 28.59 (-30) can see him home in front.
