For the second year in a row, Tipperary were handed an opening round defeat in the Munster minor hurling championship following a disappointing twelve-point drubbing at the hands of the Cork on Sunday.

With just two of last year’s side eligible for this year’s campaign, Conor O’Dwyer and captain John Campion, Tipp manager Paul Collins fielded a young side as they embarked on their campaign to capture a 41^st Munster title.

And that experience at this level was sorely missing as Tipp fell to a formidable and physically stronger Cork selection, bristling with the best the Rebel county have to offer.

Tipp found themselves out of their depth in the second half and were put to the sword with the concession of seven points without reply after the interval putting pay to their challenge, a particular point Collins alluded to in his post-match interview.

However, while Tipp struggled to cope playing into the teeth of a stiff breeze blowing into the city end in that second half there were a lot of positives to take from the encounter, particularly a determined opening half performance, which should realistically have seen them lead at the break but for the concession of two avoidable goals, the second just four minutes before the interval.
