Kilruane MacDonaghs battled their way to a two-point victory against Killenaule in a very stop start encounter in the County Senior Hurling Championship last Sunday afternoon.

This match was billed as the possible tie of the round when the fixtures were made, but it failed to live up to that billing for vast periods, with both sides never getting into their rhythm at any stage.

A first half goal from Cian Darcy helped Kilruane to a four-point lead at the break and it was a lead they more or less kept intact for the remainder as Killenaule could only drag it back to a two-point margin at various stages; with Kilruane always having the responses to Killenaule’s advances.

But on the balance of play, Kilruane just about deserved this one with Darragh Peters, Craig Morgan, Niall O’Meara and Cian Darcy all having good outings, as the North champions got their campaign off to a winning start.
