Hogan goal rescues point for Lorrha

Lorrha 1-13

Thurles Sarsfields 0-16

A Cian Hogan goal in the final minute of added time rescued a point for Lorrha in their Seamus O Riain Cup group 1 opener against Thurles Sarsfields on Sunday.

The North men trailed last years county intermediate champions throughout and were six points in arrears with 54 minutes gone but despite their outplayed for long spells, they stuck to their task and reeled in the Mid men and could have snatched it in the end as Niall McIntyre had a chance to win the game but a late chance drifted wide.

Having come so near to what could have been a costly loss, Lorrha will be relieved to have claimed a draw but they’ll rue missed chances in the first half, when against the breeze they shot nine wides and also gave up good point chances in chasing goals. It left a high motivated Thurles Sarsfields side an opportunity to surge into a 0-12 to 0-5 half time lead.
