Thurles Sarsfield’s ability to score goals proved to be the difference as the Mid champions progressed past Toomevara in this County Under 21 'A' Hurling semi-final on Sunday.

It wasn’t just the three second half goals which broke the game open in their favour as playing against the stiff breeze in the opening half, Conor Stakelum’s goal after just eight minutes was the perfect start which kept Sarsfields within sight of Toomevara.

Thurles trailed 0-7 to 1-3 at half time but helped by the breeze in the second half the Mid champions used the vast open spaces of the pitch to gradually pick off the scores and after the second and third goal inside two minutes, which put them 3-6 to 0-8 in front they finished off the final twenty minutes comfortably to progress to the final against Clonoulty/Rossmore next Sunday.

After the dramatic eighty minutes the previous week, the venue changed to the Ragg and the weather was much improved from the drawn game although there was the odd sun-shower. Elsewhere Rory Purcell, who was sent to the line in the drawn game for Sarsfields was replaced by Matthew Kelly.
