Shannon Rovers overcame a slow start to beat slight favourites Drom & Inch in this County Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter final on Sunday.

The Mid Tipperary champions were quickest out of the blocks, and were nearly in for a goal in the fourth minute but Rovers keeper Paddy Heenan pulled off a great save from corner forward Paul Kennedy.

Drom & Inch would open a two-point advantage with points from play by Michael Everard and Aidan O’Meara. Shannon Rovers replied with a point from wing forward Padraig O’Meara.

After this score the Mid Tipp side started to take control with their half back line dominating under the high ball, and scored the next six points, with veteran Eamon Buckley hitting a monster point from his own sixty-five. This was followed up by two points from Paul Kennedy (1 free) while Michael Everard, Mikey Connors and Donnacha Kennedy then tagged on three more points, to open a seven point lead.

Alan Hogan would pull one back from a free for the North Tipp side, and Paul Burke would reduce the gap even further with a point from 45 metres after some good build-up play.

Paul Kennedy then stretched out the lead once more for Drom before the games turning point came when Rovers’ star forward Alan Hogan netted from 21 metres to leave just three points in it. Kennedy would point a 65, for Drom & Inch, before Hogan replied with a free to leave the half time score Drom & Inch 0-10 Shannon Rovers 1-4.
