Ballinahinch faltered in extra time, missing two possible goal chances, as Cashel King Cormacs came out on top in a thrilling County Intermediate Hurling quarter-final on Saturday.

The sides were level 1-16 each at the end of ordinary time, Brendan Ryan’s free in the ninth minute of added time keeping Ballinahinch in the championship for at least another twenty minutes but it was Cashel who looked the stronger during the extra time period, though those two spurned chances could have carried the day for Ballinahinch.

Ballinahinch lined out without injured defenders Tom Grace and team captain John Foley, huge losses, and their absence was compounded by the injury former county man Shane McGrath appeared to be carrying from early on. McGrath soldiered on through the eighty minutes plus and his class was evident in all he did, but these misfortunes placed Ballinahinch at a serious disadvantage against a Cashel sided bent on reclaiming its senior status and with the credentials to realise that ambition.
