Lorraine's fundraising appeal as she waits on lung transplant list

A fundraising appeal has been launched in support of a young Loughmore woman who is on a transplant list for two new lungs.

Lorraine Shorley (22) has a disease known as pulmonary hypertension, as well as a heart defect. In simpler terms, this means that the arteries between her heart and lungs are closing, which will eventually result in heart failure. Lorraine has been placed on the transplant list for two lungs and a heart repair.

She was diagnosed at the age of 17 after displaying symptoms of the disease for two years. Due to her condition, she didn’t get to finish her education.  She never had the same quality of life as her peers. Lorraine had been working part-time for two years but recently had to give up working as her condition was getting progressively worse.

Her friends Louise Ryan and Vanessa Dwan have set up a Go Fund Me web page to help raise vital funds to help prolong Lorraine's life. Funds raised will go towards her medical expenses and travel expenses for the next few years, before and after her transplant. Also, adaptations will have to be made to Lorraine's home to make it more recovery-friendly for her return from this life changing-surgery.
