Online energy meeting with local focus

Community activists and volunteers are invited to a web-meeting entitled 'The Energy Transition – How Your Community Can Benefit' on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 7.30-9pm.

This online event will be an introduction for community groups interested in developing local energy projects. Participants can find out what help there is for groups under the SEAI Sustainable Energy Communities Programme. To book your place, email fitzgibbong@gmail.com or send a text to 085-7409023. This web meeting will be held on Zoom, accessible from computer, phone, or tablet. A link will be sent beforehand to everyone who registers.

The SEAI Sustainable Energy Communities Programme offers groups up to four days' mentor support to help scope out potential projects, as well as 100% funding to carry out a 'Community Energy Plan'. Completing this Energy Plan identifies viable projects and gives access to further Capital Funding available.
There is also the opportunity of learning from the over 400 other communities already involved. SEAI has a special website for this initiative - www.seai.ie/sec. There is also an explanatory YouTube presentation here: www.bit.ly/aboutsec
This interactive event will include short presentations and discussion. Speakers will include the Tipperary Community Energy Mentor Gearóid Fitzgibbon, Eoghain O’Horgan of Tipperary Energy Agency, Marcella Maher Keogh of Energy Communities Tipperary, and Derry O’Donnell of Community Power. The agenda will outline: What supports are available under SEAI’s Sustainable Energy Communities Programme? (15 mins); What can a local Energy Plan do for your community? (10 mins); two short case studies of successful Tipperary-based community energy projects (www.EnergyCommunitiesTipp.ie and www.CommunityPower.ie - 10 mins each).
There will also be an opportunity for discussion and questions (25 mins).

The meeting will be hosted by Gearóid Fitzgibbon and Sean Sweeney, who are part of SEAI’s Community Energy Mentor team in Tipperary. This is an open meeting. All communities seeking to find out more information are invited to register to attend. This online meeting is organised by MidWestSouthWest SEC Mentors, on behalf of the SEAI – Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. The MidWestSouthWest SEC Mentors are co-ordinated by Ballyhoura Development, and includes Clare Local Development Company, North and East Kerry Development, and XD Consulting. The group works in partnership to support communities in Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Cork and Kerry, to become more sustainable, under the Sustainable Energy Communities Programme funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
