Milestone celebration for local Air Corps men

Members of the Irish Air Corps' Aircraft Engineering Apprentice Class of 1968 were invited to Áras an Uachtaráin recently to celebrate their 50th anniversary of joining the Aer Corps.

Among them were Michael Downey from Terryglass and Bill Ryan of Kilbarron, both of whom started out in what is now Borrisokane Community College.

Six of the original group have passed away over the years and a few others were unable to attend on the day. Almost all have worked in the aircraft engineering field for various companies, mainly Aer Lingus also Irish Helicopters and British Airways.
