32-county rally driver visits Nenagh

A rally driver and his wife stopped briefly in Nenagh last week while attempting to drive through 32 counties in 32 hours in aid of the Croí heart disease and stroke charity.

Celebrating the advent of his 70th birthday, well- known car enthusiast and rally driver Martin Ward and his wife (and long-time co-pilot in their rallying days) Linda Conroy took on the unique challenge in a 32-year-old car, a Mercedes 190E Cosworth. They pulled in to Nenagh Retail Park at Stereame last Wednesday, where they were greeted on their short stop by local vintage car enthusiasts.

Martin’s family has a history of heart disease and he has lost a number of siblings and relations to sudden heart failure. He himself has had two heart attacks, so this is the reason why Croí holds a special place for him.

Martin and Linda set out with a target of raising €32,000 for Croí. Donations can still be made through the iDonate website. You can also follow their Facebook event page for further updates.
