Cables of EV chargers cut in Killaloe area
By Anna Powell
Recently, members of the public have found cut EV charger cables in the Killaloe area. It is suspected that criminals are cutting these wires in order to obtain copper.
EV Charging Cables Cut
The Nenagh Guardian spoke with Cllr Tony O’Brien of the Killaloe Local Electoral Area of Clare County Council as to what members of the public have witnessed in the area.
“The cables for charging have been cut just at the charging ports at the tennis club and at the playground car park in Killaloe,” said Cllr O’Brien. “I suspect its groups of individuals going from towns and villages and taking these wires for whatever the resale value is of them,” he said.
“They are cut in quite a professional way,” he said about EV chargers that he has observed in the area after they had been cut.
Inconvenience for the public
“Locally, for people who want to use these chargers, and want to charge their vehicle, the impact is very inconvenient,” he summed up on behalf of locals in Killaloe.
“Most people have apps now which tell them what charging points are available. Killaloe EV Charging points would be used quiet a lot, anytime I pass the car park, particularly in the evenings, you will always see a few cars pulled in and charging. So, it is a huge inconvenience for people who have electric vehicles and who may not have access to their own individual charger,” he reflected.
Incidents should be reported
“I would advise people to stay away from cut EV Chargers and to report them,” expressed Cllr Tony O’Brien.
Members of an Garda Síochána were contacted about these incidents and were not in a position to comment at the time. Clare County Council were also contacted in relation to this incident, which was acknowledged. The Nenagh Guardian has not received a response.
