Call for double yellow lines to be repainted

By Anna Powell

Cllr JP O’Meara called for double yellow lines along Summerhill to be repainted during the most recent sitting of the Nenagh Municipal District meeting of Tipperary County Council.

“Every day there is abuse of people sitting in their cars [on double yellow lines],” he said referring to Summerhill in particular but stressing that it also has a ‘knock-on’ effect to other streets.

Using the cinema in Nenagh as a landmark, Cllr JP O’Meara outlined how from the “last car space up to the zebra crossing needs to have the lines repainted as well”.

Call to paint Loading Bays a different colour

Cllr JP O’Meara also questioned the local authority as to whether loading bays could be painted a ‘slightly different colour’ to what they are currently painted to help people realise that they are not supposed to park there.

Public attitude towards rules of the road.

Cllr O’Meara recalled recently witness a lorry driver leaving his vehicle to ask a driver to move so that he could use the loading bay.

Cllr O’Meara said that loading bays needs to be a priority as the council implements its new parking by laws.

Cllr Morris agreed with Cllr O’Meara and said that it is “ridiculous what is going on’ and recounted a story where he once witnessed someone in Nenagh parking in a loading bay while it was being repainted.

Response from the council

A council spokesperson said that he would alert the traffic wardens to make sure that parking violations are being enforced and said that the council would look at repainting.
