Nenagh dance for motor neurone support

The seventh annual social dance organised in Nenagh by Mary Lynch is coming up on Saturday, October 31.

Held every year to support local people and families living with motor neurone disease, Mary’s event at the Scouts Hall has become a popular fixture on the local social dancing circuit. This year’s dance will feature music by the talented Peter Burke of Ballinahinch.

As with previous events, there will be refreshments and a raffle, with some truly wonderful prizes already contributed by the ever-supportive Nenagh business community. Mary took the opportunity to thank all those providing prizes, those baking and those who have offered to help organise the night.

She said she is always taken by how good everyone is to support this event year after year.

There will be an admission charge of €10 but patrons are invited to contribute whatever they want, as all proceeds will go to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Mary, who has been awarded by the IMNDA in recognition of the tens of thousands of euros she has raised for the charity, is always keen to point out that everything raised local, stays local.

The IMNDA provides such vital services as home care nurses for people living with motor neurone disease, as well as specialised equipment, advice and practical information.

The charity organisation - which relies on more than 80% of its funding from fundraisers like the one organised by Mary in Nenagh - facilitates much-needed breaks for carers, as well as counselling sessions for those diagnosed with the disease and their loved ones.
