National Climate Action Week 2026

Tipperary is leading the way with over 80 community events in support of National Climate Action Week 2026

Tipperary County Council is supporting communities this October to make the An Taisce National Climate Action Week 2026 a landmark celebration of positive community climate action. The council is offering funding and guidance for talks, workshops and hands-on demonstrations, all designed to support sustainability and climate change resilience.

Councillor Fiona Bonfield, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, said: “Community and voluntary groups are hosting events across the entire month of October, creating more opportunities than ever for people to get involved.” She paid tribute to the many volunteers who have organised these events; “Tipperary groups are leading the way and helping to enhance the places where we live, work and visit. Climate Action Week will increase awareness and understanding of both the challenges and the solutions associated with climate change and help build stronger and more resilient communities together.”

Sara Bourke, Community Climate Action Officer explained “Tipperary County Council is supporting community events covering a wide range of topics, including reducing energy consumption and waste, repair and reuse, growing our own food, biodiversity, and exploring the impacts of climate change on our communities. The Team Tipp Clean-Up campaign is enabling 37 groups to tackle roadside litter and inspire collective action to keep Tipperary clean, green and litter-free. Finally, Tipperary Sports Partnership is promoting its Re-Live Sports Gear initiative, helping to reduce waste, encourage reuse, and to make sport more affordable and accessible for everyone”.

This year marks the 10th National Climate Action Week, organised by An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland.

Charles Stanley Smith of An Taisce welcomed the strong level of participation across the county. “Tipperary is a leading county in Ireland and is participating strongly in National Climate Action Week.

As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the initiative, we would like to thank Tipperary County Council for its continued support in helping communities take positive action for the environment.”
