Woman ‘came to Nenagh to steal’
A woman appeared before Nenagh District Court after she stole perfume from a local pharmacy and returned two days later.
Beatrice Aprosirei (33) pleaded guilty to stealing perfume worth €64 from Slattery’s Pharmacy on Friar St on September 2 last. She returned to the same pharmacy two days later and was arrested outside. She was taken to Nenagh Garda Station and made full admissions, but the property was not recovered.
Ms Aprosirei had no previous convictions but had a number of other matters pending in courts around the country. She had compensation for the stolen perfume in Nenagh.
Judge Marie Keane noted that the defendant had an address Belcamp Cottages, Dublin 17, and wanted to know why she was in Nenagh.
“To meet some friends,” Ms Aprosirei replied, through an interpreter. “I collected my child from school and went to Nenagh to meet friends for coffee.”
“It is quite apparent that you came to Nenagh to steal,” Judge Keane replied. “Businesses in Nenagh provide a service to the people of Nenagh, and pharmacy is an essential service.”
The judge found it “very disturbing” that Ms Aprosirei went back to the same premises two days after the theft. “Retail must be protected,” she said.
The defendant, a lone mother on child welfare payment, told the court that she was “a victim of human trafficking in England… I can prove that”.
She was fined €100 and ordered to hand over compensation for the perfume.
