Exhilarating meeting of Nenagh Toastmasters

Nenagh Toastmasters held their second meeting of the season in the Abbey Court Hotel on Tuesday, September 22, at 8pm.

There was good attendance at this meeting, which was comprised of members and guests. The officers of the meeting included Joe Ryan in his role of Toastmaster. who ensured that the meeting ran smoothly.

As there were guests present, Joe introduced the officers of the meeting and afforded them an opportunity to explain their roles. Joe then introduced the prepared speeches of the meeting. These consisted of two prepared speeches, which were also evaluated.

The first speech was delivered by Tony Spain, titled ‘First Impressions’. This speech was evaluated by Triona Breen. The second speech was delivered by Tom McAuliffe, titled ‘Giving Blood’. This was evaluated by Eibhlin Maher.

Brendan O’Brien in his role as Topicsmaster presided over the table topics session. The table topics session consisted of a carefully selected repertoire of topics. The table topics session helps to improve our impromptu speaking.

Topics that featured during the session included ‘What brings me to life’, ‘The only person I can change is the one in the mirror’, ‘What takes Nenagh to the next level’.

Helen Spillane in her role as General Evaluator delivered her report on the conduct of the meeting. Overall, she was impressed.

David Bisschoff in his role as Timer ensured that the speakers, the evaluators and the table topics all kept within the relevant timeframe.

John Spillane in his role as Grammarian took note of the crutch words that people said during the meeting.

Overall, it was an exhilarating meeting with excellent participation from all attendees. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, at 8pm in the Abbey Court Hotel. Guests are especially welcome. This meeting is an extra special meeting as it is comprised of a competition for the best speech delivered online. The winner of this competition will proceed to the Area Final, which will be held online on Saturday, October 17.
