Nenagh pub plan withdrawn

A plan to redevelop the site of Nenagh’s old Malthouse pub has been declared withdrawn.

Tipperary Co Council had been considering an application in the name of Margaret Fogarty to demolish existing derelict buildings at No 7 & 8 McDonagh St and construct three two-storey terraced dwelling houses, together with associated site works.

The council had granted permission for similar plan in 2024, though this was overturned following an appeal to An Bord Pleanála by a third party. A new application was subsequently submitted and it sought to address the issues of contention, including keeping the existing shop front appearance on the street.

Last July the council wrote to the applicant, stating that the proposal “represents an improvement overall… However, some concerns and confusion remain in relation to the relationship between the proposal and the adjacent dwelling at No 1 Rossa Place.”

The applicant was asked to address these concerns by an August 8 deadline, and was told that failure to do so would result in the planning application being declared withdrawn. The council wrote to the applicant again recently stating that the specified period for submitting further information had expired. “The council considers this application withdrawn and will not adjudicate a decision on same.”
