Múinteoir Lúsaí bows out

A long and distinuished career at Gaelscoil

Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan recently celebrated the end of an extraordinary teaching career as Múinteoir Lúsaí Ní Mheára marked her retirement after an impressive 31 years of dedicated service to the school community.

Throughout her long and distinguished career, Lúsaí made a lasting impression on generations of pupils, inspiring in them a deep love and appreciation of the arts. Her enthusiasm for reading, poetry, singing and drama was infectious, and she created countless opportunities for children to express themselves creatively and develop their confidence.

Lúsaí also flourished in Special Education, where her compassion and understanding made a particular difference to some of the school's most vulnerable children. She had a wonderful ability to reach out to pupils who might struggle with reading or with their self-esteem, encouraging them to recognise their own abilities and helping them to experience success.

She particularly enjoyed the collaborative approach of station teaching, including the Literacy Lift Off programme, where her creativity and dedication helped children to develop their literacy skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

Over the years, Lúsaí was also an enthusiastic participant in the many school trips and adventures enjoyed by pupils and staff. Her experiences with the children took her far beyond the school gates, with trips to places as far-flung as Dingle, Chester and Dallas, creating memories that will remain with pupils and colleagues for many years to come.

Bhí grá ar leith ag Lúsaí don Ghaeilge agus don chultúr agus mheall sí na páistí de shíor chun an Ghaeilge a labhairt. Múinteoir Lúsaí also had high standards when it came to presentation whether in your copy or in the wearing of your school uniform, trying always to instil a sense of pride in the children themselves and their association with Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan.

At mass celebrated on Friday, September 11, by Fr Pat Gilbert in the company of the school community and family and friends in St Mary of the Rosary Church, Múinteoir Lúsaí thanked everyone for their expression of gratitude to her and urged the children present to continue in their efforts to keep the Irish Language and culture alive, to be kind to others and to keep up their reading both at home and in school.

After 31 years, Lúsaí leaves behind a wonderful legacy at Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan. Her commitment to her pupils, her love of learning and the arts, and her particular care for children who needed extra encouragement have touched the lives of so many.

The school community extends its heartfelt thanks to Lúsaí for her years of service, friendship and dedication, and wishes her every happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter.
