St. Mary’s blasted their way past a Moyne-Templetuohy side that showed little or no resistance in this County Premier Intermediate Hurling quarter final on Sunday afternoon.

This game was as good as over after seven minutes following a blistering start by the Clonmel side with Peter McGarry finding the net in the second and sixth minutes. St. Marys led by 2-5 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter and pushed on to lead by ten at the break.

The second half was more of the same with St. Mary’s dictating proceedings, with limited resistance from a disappointing Moyne-Templetuohy side. Of their twelve points, O’Connor accounted for eleven, one from play. Conor Bowe chipped in with the other.

The Clonmel side will be happy with their day in Boherlahan with most of their players stepping up to the plate. Enda Dunphy was in excellent form, pulling off a least four top drawer saves, especially one from Gearoid O’Connor in the eighteenth minute.

Overall, the Mary’s defence had the measure of their opponents, with Liam Ryan, Tadhg Sheehan and Seamus Kennedy leading by example. Tadhg Condon and Sammy Ryan shaded the midfield battle, but it was in attack where they were most lethal with Cathal Deely, Harry Lawlor and Joe Higgins supplementing the work-rate of Peter McGarry, who finished with 2-8.

Condon opened the scoring after ninety seconds before Sean Kennedy played Peter McGarry through with a deft pass to fire past Paul Maher.

Seamus Kennedy, with a shot from midfield, put them five up before McGarry struck again after turning over a defender, following a short puck-out. By the seventh minute, Mary’s had 2-3 on the board without reply.

Gearoid O’Connor, who had been off target earlier, landed a huge effort from back on his own 45-metre line in the tenth minute to get the Mid men off the mark.

The St. Mary’s attack were getting quality ball and made the most of it. Harry Lawlor rounded his marker and split the posts. Cormac Deegan drew a free which O’Connor converted.

At the start of the second quarter, St. Marys hit three points on the bounce from play from Aaron Cagney, Harry Lawlor and Peter McGarry.

Moyne hit a purple patch with Gearoid O’Connor bringing the best out of Enda Dunphy with Finn Jones following up only for Dunphy to save again at the expense of a 65, which O’Connor converted. He followed up with three further minors from different distances, two from placed balls and one from play.

St. Marys finished the half in a flurry with points from Deely, Cagney and a Dunphy free from his own 45, to leave the half time score 2-10 to 0-6.

Moyne introduced Pierce Meade and Tristian Kelly at the break in an effort to combat the Mary’s dominance, but the status quo remained. Gearoid O’Connor put over his seventh minor in the opening minute, but St. Marys replied in triplicate from Seamus Kennedy, Sammy Ryan and a Peter McGarry free. O’Connor landed a free before laying off to Conor Bowe who fired over on forty minutes.

St. Mary’s again replied with three unanswered minors from Tadhg Condon, Cathal Deely and McGarry again from a free. O’Connor hit three frees to bring the Moyne tally to 0-12, with nine minutes remaining. St. Mary’s played out the final minutes of this one sided contest scoring 1-6 without reply, with Ruairí Leahy coming off the bench to register 1-1.
