Contract signed for Birdhill road improvements
The contract signing took place for the appointment of Rathcabin Tarmacadam Limited by Tipperary County Council as main contractor for the Birdhill Active Travel Scheme on Tuesday, September 1, at the Nenagh Civic Offices.
The contract, valued at €2.3 million, consists of the construction of pedestrian and cycle facilities through the village of Birdhill between the 50/60kph speed limit demarcation on the west side of the village and the northern arm of Birdhill roundabout to the east of the village. In overall terms the scheme involves the installation of cycle facilities and footpaths, newly improved bus stops, and traffic calming measures such as the installation of raised uncontrolled crossings, a raised toucan crossing, reduced carriageway widths and junction tightening.
The overall scheme will transform the character and function of Birdhill village by delivering enhanced facilities safer for all road users with particular benefits for sustainable active modes of travel such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Works have recently commenced on site and are due to be substantially completed by the end of Q2 2027.
