Mid-West meeting for survivors of industrial schools

The survivors of industrial and reformatory schools are invited to a special meeting in the Mid-West on Thursday, September 3.

Mary Donovan was one of the four hungerstrikers who undertook the strike for 52 days and 51 nights up in Dublin last year from September 21 to November 10. They did this to highlight the plight of survivors of industrial and reformatory schools who are fighting for services and supports that were promised by the government but many of them are still not in place.

Mary is arranging a meeting for the Mid-West Region including Limerick, Clare and Tipperary on September 3 in collaboration with Sage Advocacy at No 1 Pery Square at 11.30am. Many survivors may not know nor have they signed up for the supports and services that the four fought for on that hunger strike. Three of them met with government officials recently and while they were disappointed, they have made small progress.

The group points out that they are now nine months post-hunger strike and are still waiting for many of the outstanding services that were committed to them by the government.
