Water outage in Tipp

Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses in Newport following an operational issue which resulted in an interruption to supply at the local Water Treatment Plant.

Customers in Birdhill, Ballina, Ballinahinch, Newport Town and the surrounding areas may experience an interruption to supply as a result.

Alternative water supplies are available in Newport Town, opposite Sullivan’s Pub on Main Street, and on the Cork Road at the Glencree Housing Estate.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure

It is estimated that supply will be restored by 5pm today.

Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue.”

Our crews are continuing repair works and we expect to have them completed later this evening. Water supply will start to return once the repairs are finished, but it may take until early tomorrow morning for supply to be fully restored to all customers as treated water reservoirs gradually refill overnight. We know this disruption is frustrating and we thank customers for their patience while we work to restore normal supply.
