Toomevara win Community Games Camogie National Gold

For the first time in their club’s proud history, Toomevara are All-Ireland Under 14 Community Games Camogie champions after a successful National Finals at SETU Carlow on Sunday.

The girls have trained since January 3rd and excellent attendance at training laid the platform for this historic victory.

A tough county campaign saw the girls emerge victorious over Boherlahan-Dualla in the County Final in May before securing the Munster title in style in June.

Some of the girls were also Munster champions in 2025 before losing in the All-Ireland Final so it was fitting that they had their redemption day last Sunday.

Toomevara had a good win over Ulster champions Inniskeen from Monaghan in the All-Ireland semi-final before defeating Portumna in the final.

This was a game for the ages which saw Toome lead for most of normal time before a brilliant Portumna team reeled them in to take the game to extra time.

Toomevara went behind in extra time but in typical fashion they managed to wrestle back superiority to secure an one-point victory, and with it, a historic first ever All Ireland Community Games Camogie title for Toomevara.

The team was captained by Katie Hartnett who delivered a wonderful post-match cup acceptance speech.

The squad were coached by Lena Woods, John Manley, Nora Dwan, Mairead Foley & Mickayla Doran.

This victory tops off an incredible year for this group with the team securing the U14 County championship (Gold Team); U14 ‘A’ County finalists; and U14 Community Games County & Munster champions (Back to back winners).

A welcome home parade took place on a beautiful evening on Sunday as the girls were given a homecoming to remember with a large crowd lining the main street in Toomevara to recognise this landmark achievement.

Sunday also saw Toomevara’s under 12’s win two county titles with three of the Community Games winning team having to dash back to Thurles to play in their final.

The management team would like to thank Toomevara GAA pitch manager Matt Ryan for his kindness in accommodating the endless amount of matches this group took part in this year, and to George Frend for providing access to the Toomevara NS all-weather pitch.

The club ran a very successful timber raffle fundraiser to raise much-needed funds for the many expenses associated with the All-Ireland Community Games weekend such as gear-bags, training tops, sorts, socks, etc. The club are so grateful to all those that supported this. Sincere thanks also to the Toomevara Camogie committee for all their support this year.

Thanks also to the Tipperary Inn for providing a delicious post-match meal for the players and management; a lovely gesture at the end of a magical day.
