Toomevara gets another soccer club

Readers who are also active in the social media scene of North Tipperary soccer will likely have heard of the NT&DL’s newest club, Toomevara Celtic.

The club was established in March by Eddie Brady, who is the former manager of Moneygall 'A', Nenagh AFC 'B', and Cloughjordan 'A'.

Toomevara village is located a five-minute drive from well-established side Ballymackey FC, a slightly longer six-minute drive from the rapidly expanding Moneygall FC, and a seven-minute drive from Sallypark Odhrans FC.

With that being said, who is going to play for this new team if the surrounding clubs already have the player pool snapped up? So far, it is understood that a considerable number of Toomevara Celtic players are coming out from Roscrea and Nenagh, whilst some former Cloughjordan players have also opted to follow Eddie Brady to his new club.

However, despite boasting some experience in and around the league, it has been a difficult start to pre-season for the new entity. Toomevara Celtic have played four friendlies so far. First up was a heavy defeat to Two-Mile Borris, which was followed by losses to Borroway Rovers, Shinrone United and Birdhill.

The club were unable to source suitable land in or around the village of Toomevara for a home pitch. In the end, the only suitable ground was found a 30-minute drive away at the far side of Templetuohy, near the Laois border, the former home of Templetuohy FC.
