Man stole energy drink and charger

A man recently appeared before Nenagh District Court and pleaded guilty to theft while on two suspended sentences.

Marcu Kvec (50) of Manor Street, Waterford, pleaded guilty to the theft of a can of Red Bull and a charging cable in Applegreen filling station along Dublin Road in Nenagh on March 14 last. Mr Kvec was identified from CCTV.

His solicitor, Elizabth McKeever, told the court that Mr Kvec “stupidly took the Red Bull and charger” and was “very apologetic”. Ms McKeever asked the court to not impose a custodial sentence, explaining that his wife has “very serious health issues”.

Mr Kvec had €20 in compensation for Applegreen for the items that he stole.

“We have a situation here where a person has two suspended sentences,” responded Judge Marie Keane to the request, pointing out that Mr Kvec had come to the attention of the guards due to this theft.

“Theft of a can of Red Bull or a charger is hardly a necessity,” continued Judge Keane.

Judge Keane convicted Mr Kvec of Section 4 theft and sentenced him to three months in prison, suspended in his own bond of €100. The €20 compensation that was handed into the court was to also be given to Applegreen in Nenagh.
