Speeding drivers almost collided with runners

A man recently recently appeared before Nenagh District Court and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

On February 10, 2026, guards were on duty in an unmarked garda patrol car when their attention was drawn to the loud revving of an engine at 8.07pm.

There were two vehicles travelling at speed, and appeared to be racing each other in Templemore.

Guards observed as the driver of one vehicle almost collided with two people running. Jack McGrath (19) of Hillgrove, Borrisokane, was stopped by the guards after they activated their blue lights.

He admitted to driving at speed and to driving with no insurance.

Mr McGrath appeared before Nenagh District Court with no previous convictions and pleaded guilty to both offences.

Judge Marie Keane noted that it was “fortuitous that there wasn’t a fatality” as the driver almost collided with two runners.

Judge Keane said that this type of behaviour while driving is “reckless” and convicted Mr McGrath of dangerous driving and fined him €200 with six months to pay.

Mr McGrath was also handed a two-year disqualification for dangerous driving and handed a mandatory concurrent disqualification of two years for driving without insurance. He was fined €200 with six months to pay for driving without insurance.
