Birdhill FC to officially open new facilities

By Gary Culbert

Birdhill FC will be celebrating their new facilities this Friday night, at the official opening of their fantastic new pitch and associated facilities in the village.

After purchasing the site in 2012 for €30,000, it was a long process to transform the low-lying ground adjacent to the railway line, to the state-of-the-art sand-based surface that it currently is, with a full-sized adult pitch, juvenile pitch, warm-up area, dressing rooms, car park, and toilet facilities. A total of around €500,000 has been spent to date with grant funding of over €250,000 received.

It is rumoured that a former Birdhill stalwart will come home to perform the ‘ribbon cutting’ this Friday, which will officially open the impressive facility for the small rural club, which was set up in 1983.

NT&DL clubs and friends alike are invited to join Birdhill FC in marking this special occasion, which kicks off at 7.00pm on August 14th (V94 0T91), followed by refreshments afterwards in the village.

The pitch opening will kick-start the Birdhill Tradfest, which will run from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th August, with plenty to see throughout the whole weekend.
