Field trip to Ardcroney
The next Ormond Historical Society outing takes place on Monday evening, July 27 next. The venue is the village of Ardcroney and participants should meet outside the Catholic church for a 7.30pm (sharp) start. The guide for the evening is local historian and OHS committee member Danny Grace.
After a brief introduction to the village, we will walk the short distance down the road to view the Stone Age grave on the farm of the Ryan family. We will then return to the village to explore the history of some of the houses, the 19th century Catholic church, the old schoolhouse (now the parish hall) and the unique medieval church-castle, and some of the interesting burials in its surrounding graveyard.
The tour is all outdoors, so participants should come suitably clad for the weather. (The sunshine may not last until then!). Also, there is a short road and field walk involved, so suitable footwear is advisable.
All are invited to join us on Monday evening, July 27, to share in the exploration of the various sites of interest in and around this historic village of Ardcroney.
