Tipperary Fianna Fáil celebrates its centenary

Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary Ryan O'Meara has said Fianna Fáil's success over the past century has been built on a willingness to make difficult decisions, deliver practical solutions and invest in future generations.

Speaking at the Tipperary Fianna Fáil Centenary Event at the Horse and Jockey Hotel, attended by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, public representatives and party members, Deputy O'Meara reflected on the party's history and its contribution to Tipperary and Ireland over the past century.

A CENTURY OF SERVICE

The Tipperary TD said: "This event was a special opportunity to celebrate a century of service to our communities, our county and our country and to reflect with pride on the contribution Fianna Fáil has made to Irish life.

"For one hundred years, Fianna Fáil has been at the heart of Irish politics, helping to build modern Ireland."

Deputy O'Meara said Tipperary had played a central role in the history of the party from its earliest days.

"Tipperary answered the call of Éamon de Valera and the founding members of Fianna Fáil in 1926 and helped build one of the strongest grassroots political movements in the country.

"The work of those early members laid the foundations for what would become the most successful political force in the history of Tipperary, producing Councillors, Cathaoirligh, Senators, TDs, Ministers and even a European Commissioner."

CHALLENGES

Deputy O'Meara said the challenges facing Ireland today require the same practical and solutions-focused approach that has defined Fianna Fáil throughout its history.

"There will always be those who point out problems or offer easy answers, but Fianna Fáil has always chosen progress over protest, solutions over soundbites and pragmatism over ideology.

Those values have served Ireland well for the last hundred years and I believe they will continue to serve our country well for the next hundred years."

Deputy O'Meara thanked members and supporters across Tipperary for their contribution to the party over the past century.

"The success of Fianna Fáil has always been built from the ground up by ordinary members giving their time and energy to their communities and to public service.

The centenary celebrations were an opportunity to recognise and thank those people for everything they have done for our party and our county."
