Investment scams on the rise

Gardaí are warning the public about an increased prevalence of investment scams in the Nenagh district.

Several local victims have recently reported losing tens of thousands of euros in online scams, wherein they were duped into thinking that their investment was making money, only for it to be taken by fraudsters. Gardaí say the criminals behind these scams are all the time adapting and getting better at deceiving injured parties.

There has also been an increase in the Nenagh district of incidents where people reply to fraudulent text messages claiming a suspicious transaction was made on their bank card. Victims engaged with the message sender or caller, which in some cases led to their bank account being accessed by fraudsters.

Meanwhile, gardaí are warning business owners about a change scam operating in Nenagh in recent days, whereby cashiers were tricked into handing over more money than they should to individuals looking for change.
