Council supporting Climate Action Projects

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District has officially launched the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026, with newly elected Cathaoirleach Councillor Kieran Bourke marking the occasion at a photo call at the rain gardens on Castle Street, Carrick-on-Suir, on Thursday.

Photographs to mark the launch were taken at the recently installed nature-based solutions on Castle Street, including rain gardens, which showcase practical examples of sustainable urban drainage and environmental enhancement in the town.

The LEAF initiative, supported nationally by IPB Insurance and local authorities, provides funding to community groups delivering projects that enhance the local environment and contribute to climate action efforts. A total allocation of €20,000 is available within the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District this year.

Councillor Kieran Bourke was joined by his MD colleagues and Tipperary County Council yesterday and commented:

"The LEAF scheme is a fantastic opportunity for our local communities to take meaningful action in enhancing their environment. I would strongly encourage all eligible groups to apply and help us continue the great work being done across the district to promote sustainability, biodiversity and community pride."

Applications are invited from Tidy Towns groups and similar voluntary organisations, residents’ associations and environmental groups, with groups requiring Tipperary Public Participation Network registration

Funding is available for projects that promote:

- Biodiversity and pollinator-friendly initiatives

- Tree planting and urban greening

- Waste reduction, recycling and reuse initiatives

- Water conservation measures

- Climate action and sustainability awareness

- Community environmental improvement works

Minimum grant amount : €1,000 Maximum grant: €5,000

Projects will be assessed based on environmental impact, community benefit, feasibility and innovation. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with local stakeholders such as schools, sports clubs and voluntary organisations to maximise the impact of their proposals.

All funded projects must be completed by September 30 and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme.
