Tipperary GAA launches Strategic Plan 2026–2030
Tipperary GAA officially launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030 on Thursday evening at the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, setting out a vision for the continued development of Gaelic Games across the Premier County over the next five years.
The Strategic Plan was unveiled before an audience of club representatives, County Committee members, volunteers, partners and stakeholders from across the county.
Developed following more than a year of extensive consultation, review and analysis involving clubs, officers, volunteers and stakeholders, the Strategic Plan provides a clear roadmap for the future of Tipperary GAA. It outlines the Association’s priorities and ambitions across six key strategic pillars:
•Clubs and Communities
•Coaching and Games Development
•Participation and Retention
•Facilities
•Governance, Structures and Operations
•Funding
The strategy places the continued development of Gaelic Games at the heart of everything Tipperary GAA does. Recognising that thriving clubs are the foundation of a successful county, the plan focuses on strengthening coaching structures, enhancing player development pathways, increasing participation at every age and grade and supporting the volunteers who continue to drive Gaelic Games in every community.
A major priority within the Strategic Plan is the continued investment in county infrastructure. The plan outlines the ongoing development of both FBD Semple Stadium and the Coolmore Morris Park Centre of Excellence, ensuring that Tipperary GAA has first class facilities to support players, coaches, volunteers and supporters for generations to come. These developments will provide enhanced environments for games development, education, high-performance preparation and community engagement while supporting the long-term sustainability of Gaelic Games throughout the county.
The Strategic Plan also recognises the importance of strong governance, sustainable funding and effective organisational structures to ensure the Association is well positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.
The Strategic Plan was presented by members of the Strategic Plan Steering Group, each of whom led one of the six strategic pillars and brought significant expertise and experience to the development of the plan.
The Steering Group comprised Liam Sheedy (Portroe), Laurenz Egan (Moycarkey/Borris), Tommy Dunne (Toomevara), Conor O’Brien (Éire Óg Annacarty/Donohill), Paudie Comerford (Holycross/Ballycahill), Joe McGrath (Nenagh Éire Óg), PJ Flanagan (Moycarkey/Borris), Mark McLoughlin (Roscrea), Mark Stapleton (Borris-Ileigh) and Tom Flanagan (Moycarkey/Borris).
Drawing on their respective expertise across coaching and games development, club development, governance, finance, facilities, operations and organisational planning, the group worked collaboratively throughout the consultation process to develop a strategy that reflects the needs and ambitions of Tipperary GAA.
Speaking at the launch, Liam Sheedy acknowledged the tremendous work undertaken throughout the strategy process, paying tribute to Chief Executive Officer Murtagh Brennan for his leadership and commitment, while also recognising the significant contribution made by each of the pillar leaders and members of the Steering Group in developing a strategy that will guide Tipperary GAA over the coming five years.
A Vision for the Future
Over the lifetime of the strategy, Tipperary GAA will focus on:
•Developing high-quality coaching structures and player pathways across all codes.
•Supporting clubs as vibrant centres of their communities.
•Growing participation and improving player retention at every stage of the player journey.
•Continuing the development of the Coolmore Morris Park Centre of Excellence and FBD Semple Stadium.
•Strengthening governance, organisational effectiveness and financial sustainability.
•Building partnerships that will support the long-term future of Gaelic Games throughout Tipperary.
The Strategic Plan is intended to be a living document, with clear objectives, measurable actions and ongoing monitoring to ensure progress is delivered throughout the five-year period.
Tipperary GAA Chairperson Jimmy Minogue welcomed everyone to the launch and said:
“It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone here this evening as we launch Tipperary GAA’s Strategic Plan 2026–2030. This strategy sets out what we want to achieve over the next five years and provides a clear direction for our Association as we continue to develop Gaelic Games across the county. We have many good days ahead, but achieving our ambitions requires careful planning, strong leadership and the continued commitment of our clubs, volunteers and communities. This plan provides that roadmap and gives us confidence that Tipperary GAA is well positioned for the future.”
Tipperary GAA Chief Executive Officer Murtagh Brennan said: “Today marks an important milestone for Tipperary GAA as we launch a Strategic Plan that sets out a clear, ambitious and achievable vision for the future of our games and our organisation.
This plan is about strengthening every part of Tipperary GAA — our clubs, our players, our coaches, our volunteers, our facilities, our governance and our long-term sustainability. It is built around clear goals, actions and timelines so that ambition is matched by accountability and delivery.
Most importantly, this strategy is about creating the structures, pathways and supports that will allow Gaelic Games in Tipperary to thrive for generations to come. Its success will be measured not by the document itself, but by the impact it has on our clubs, our communities and everyone involved in Tipperary GAA over the next five years.”
Tipperary GAA extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the development of the Strategic Plan, including clubs, volunteers, players, coaches, staff and stakeholders whose ideas and feedback have helped shape the Association’s vision for the future.
Working together, Tipperary GAA looks forward to delivering on the ambitions set out in the Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and continuing to build a strong, sustainable future for Gaelic Games across the Premier County.
