Success of Templemore voluntary housing project
Pictured enjoying the revamped courtyard of Voluntary Housing’s Pauline Coonan House is resident and local man John Kavanagh.
The building is home to more than 10 older people and comprises four two-bedroom apartments and six one-bedroom apartments. It allows local older people live independently in their own community.
Voluntary housing has a long waiting list of older applicants seeking accommodation, many of whom have health conditions with some living in isolated rural areas and in poor quality living conditions.
With the support of our community, Templemore Voluntary Housing plans to significantly increase its stock of custom-built town centre accommodation shortly.
This is to ensure older people continue to live in their community, enjoying conveniently located amenities and do not have to move prematurely to nursing or other care facilities outside town.
Voluntary housing provides supported accommodation at low rent and gives security of tenure to older people. The recent courtyard revamp was completed by Rody Fahy with the assistance of Michael McGreevy and was supervised by Voluntary Housing Board member Teresa Devaney.
Thank you for all the great work.
