Nenagh Éire Óg heading to Feile on the double
Nenagh Éire Óg Under 15 boys are counting down the days until they represent Feile na nGael and Feile Pail na nOg.
As county champions in both codes, it’s only the third time Nenagh have won Féile ionaint, the previous occasions in 1993 & 1988, and the third time to win the Peil, having won it in 2019 and 1986.
On Saturday 20th June they travel to Laois to play in the Féile na nGael National finals and a week later on Saturday 27th June they travel to Derry to play in Feile Peil na nOg.
Feile Peil na nÓg
Tipperary Peil na Óg took place on April 25th after postponement due to the fuel crisis with the boys drawn to play in Cashel against Cashel King Cormacs and Moyle Rovers.
Thy started slowly against Cashel but quickly settled, running out comprehensive winners, 8-5 to 1-3. In the second game they renewed rivalry with Moyle Rovers and again won by a big score, 4-6 to 1-3.
They were into the final against JK Brackens, and in a tough battle, but just as the boys showed all day, they were not going to be out worked. Their defence was excellent, conceding very little and the forwards did the business again. Indeed, the Brackens goalie was probably man of the match in the final making numerous incredible saves from the boys. Final score in the final was 3-1 to 0-2.
On the day, Dylan Corrigan was excellent in the goal, conceding very little and having great kickouts. The full back line of Vadzim Siareolzich, Evan Jones and Michael Nolan were not beaten at any stage of the day. Fionn Tucker anchored the defence brilliantly from centre back while Harry Bailey and Max Coughlan ran tirelessly up and down the field. Paraic Sheehy and Harry Coughlan were a joy to watch midfield catching kickouts and linking the play up between defence and attack. The half forward line of Odhran Cahill, David Mullarkey and Daniel O’Leary didn’t stop all day, constantly breaking up the field and supporting each other and getting plenty of scores. The full forward line of Jake Rivett, Kirsters Janitens and Alex Hogan caused huge problems for the opposition defences throughout the day. Our subs rotated on and brought huge energy and pace. Finn Morris scored a cracking goal against Cashel, Donagh Farrell hit the post with a goal-bound effort in the final. Sean Tully, James Cleary and Harry Mulcahy brought huge skill and effort all day.
Panel: Dylan Corrigan, Vadzim Siareolzich, Evan Jones, Michael Nolan, Harry Bailey, Fionn Tucker, Max Coughlan, Harry Coughlan, Paraic Sheehy, Odhran Cahill, David Mullarkey (J-Capt), Daniel O’Leary, Jake Rivett, Kirsters Janitens, Alex Hogan, Finn Morris, Sean Tully, Harry Mulcahy, James Cleary, Donagh Farrell, Kevin Hogan (J-Capt).
Féile na nGael
Nenagh Éire Óg made history on the May Bank Holiday Monday by winning the Féile and Peil double for the first time in the club’s history.
They played CJ Kickhams Mullinahone in the first match in MacDonagh Park and were winning well at half time, but Kickhams stormed back to bring an eleven point margin down to a one score game. In the end the boys won a tough battle by two points.
Toomevara came through the other group. The boys started the final brightly. Dylan Corrigan got a great goal only for Oliver Duff to reply for Toomevara. Things were level coming up to half time when we lost a player to a second yellow card and had to see out the game with only fourteen players. The boys showed huge character to work so hard for twenty minutes with only fourteen players and it’s a credit to their heart and spirit that would be bettered on the day.
Fionn Tucker struck a goal and Toome replied through Aidan O’Gorman. Frees were scored from both teams with everyone more valuable than the last with time ticking away. Nenagh Éire Óg ran out winners by, 2-7 to 2-5.
Huge celebrations took place after as it’s so rare to win any county final but to win one in your own pitch was special.
From there the boys made the traditional journey to JKC’s for ice-cream from club legend Michael Cleary. Michael told the boys about how winning county final teams have returned to the shop for a cone since the 1970’s to his father.
Panel: Donagh Farrell, Vadzim Siareolzich, Evan Jones, John Duggan, Michael Nolan, Paraic Sheehy (J-Capt), Daniel O’Leary, Harry Bailey, Harry Coughlan, Odhran Cahill, David Mullarkey, Fionn Tucker, Dylan Corrigan, Kirsters Janitens, Max Coughlan, Finn Morris, Sean Tully, James Cleary, Pierce Finn, Rian Corbett, Ruaidhrí O’Brien, Kevin Hogan (J-Capt).
