Community shines bright for Darkness Into Light

Thousand walk in Nenagh in support of Pieta House

More than 1,000 people came together at 4.15am on Saturday morning last, May 9, to take part in this year’s Darkness Into Light 5km walk in aid of Pieta House.

The event, which is held in locations all over the world, is the main fundraising event for Pieta House. The event is also aimed at raising awareness around mental health and highlights the many services that Pieta House provide to those who might be going through a personal crisis.

“The support from the community of Nenagh for the event was absolutely amazing, from donations from local businesses to volunteers helping out on the morning,” said Darkness Into Light Chairperson Christine Nevin. The committee were yet again blown away by the level of support they received.”

The event was complimented with music performed outside the old Rialto Cinema by local music artists Collie Hogan and Marie Quigley. The musical element to the event with the carefully chosen songs added a nice atmosphere and felt very appropriate for the occasion. The lyrics and vocals performed by Collie and Marie produced a performance that could only be described as outstanding in keeping with the solidarity and respectfulness of the event.

Christine added a nice message on social media after the event thanking everyone for their support of this year’s event.

She went on to thank the many businesses and individuals who supported the event by donating food, raffle prizes and donating directly to Pieta in support of this year’s event. Christine thanked the hard-working committee for their sterling hard work in preparation for this year’s event and also the many volunteers who turned up in great numbers to help on the night. A massive thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s walk; we hope to see you all again in 2027.
