A strong performance from Cork ensured they topped the group as torrential rain through the opening half made conditions difficult for both sides who were safe in the knowledge they were both through to the All-Ireland semi-finals as they played out the last group game on Sunday.

With a semi-final spot already confirmed, Tipp manager Bryan Darcy opted to have a look at his panel with skipper Eva O’Dwyer and sharpshooter Maeve Cunneen among those to be rested ahead of a rematch in the All-Ireland semi-final next weekend with no fixture at the time of going to press.

From the throw-in, Cork hit the front a Ciara Morrison point inside two minutes giving them and early lead and with Millie Condon adding a second point they settled into the flow of the gem.

Niamh Cunneen responded with a Tipperary point but Cork hit 1-2 without reply in response, Ciara Morrison set up Ava McAuliffe for a goal on seven minutes and points form Amy Sheppard and Niamh McNabola gave Cork a 1-4 to 0-1 lead as the game entered the second quarter.

Danielle Ryan had a Tipperary point as they battled to get something against a strong Cork defence but up front the home side were winning possession and on target with point from Sheppard and McNabola stretching the lead.

Niamh Cunneen had one back for Tipp again Cork had a response as Millie Condon and Avril Cashman pointed. Tipp began to settle with Danielle Ryan pointing a free and Ava Bevans hitting one from play but Cork finished the half with an Ava McAuliffe point to lead 1-9 to 0-6 at the interval.

From the restart, the result was put beyond Tipperary’s reach an Amy Sheppard goal inside a minute, increasing the Cork lead to nine points.

Piling on the pressure, Cork were winning possession in all sectors, their defence was well on top while up front the scores continued to flow as they hit ten points without reply, McAuliffe, Sheppard, Cashman, Orla Cremins, Condon, McNabola, Morrison and Sarah Murphy all finding the range as Tipperary struggled to match the Cork intensity.

It was twenty five minutes before Tipperary registered their only score of the second half, a point from Emma Darcy but by now Cork had victory secured.
