Raising a cuppa for Alzheimer society

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) in Nenagh launched Alzheimer’s Tea Day 2026, which will take place nationwide during May. The launch event was held at Nenagh Tourist Office. This year, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland is honoured to have Cathaoirleach of Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr Phyll Bugler supporting the local events.

The cathaoirleach encouraged people throughout the town to get involved in whatever way works for them: “Alzheimer’s Tea Days are a wonderful example of Nenagh coming together to support people living with dementia and their families.

Every cup of tea shared helps raise vital funds for local services and supports that make a real difference in people’s daily lives.

DEMENTIA INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

“Nenagh’s work as a Dementia Inclusive Community shows what can be achieved when local organisations, volunteers, businesses and residents champion understanding, inclusion and compassion. I want to commend everyone involved in organising Tea Days this May and encourage people across the town and surrounding areas to get involved and show their support, Cllr Bugler added.

On Friday, May 1, The North Tipperary ASI Branch will host a tea day in Nenagh Library at 11am, followed by The Friends of ASI Nenagh’s Tea Day on Thursday, May 8, at 1pm in the Nenagh Arts Centre. Everyone is warmly invited to come along, enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, and be part of a lovely community gathering.

These tea days offer a relaxed and welcoming space to meet friends, chat, and show support for people living with dementia and their families. Whether you can stay for a short visit or a longer catch-up, your presence will help make a meaningful difference and show that our community stands together.

Alzheimer’s Tea Day is one of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s largest annual fundraising events, bringing communities together to raise vital funds for dementia supports and services. With 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland, and numbers expected to double in the next 20 years, the need for community support has never been greater. People across Ireland are invited to register now at www.teaday.ie to receive a free Alzheimer’s Tea Day Party Pack, filled with everything needed to host an event on or around Thursday, May 7, 2026.

The pack includes balloons, recipes, collection boxes, and posters.

Funds raised through Alzheimer’s Tea Day support essential services such as the Alzheimer National Helpline, Daycare centres, home care, dementia advisers, family carer training, social clubs, and Alzheimer Cafés. Your support matters.
